05.05.2017

These receptions served to speak about the presentation if the Republic of Equatorial Guinea candidacy for non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

The conversations were fruitful and well-received by the diplomats, who explained to the Head of State the full support of their governments for the candidacy, thanks to the good relations maintained between their countries and Equatorial Guinea.

Throughout the day, the President received the Plenipotentiary Extraordinary Ambassador from the United States, Julie Furuta Toy, the Ambassador from the People's Republic of China, Chen Gouyou, and the Ambassador from the Republic of France, Fred Constant.

As Head of State of a member country of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo also received a delegation from the organisation, made up of ambassadors from Angola, Brazil, Portugal and the Head of Business from São Tomé and Principe. Alongside the previous diplomats, Gilberto B. Lutucuta, the Angolan representative in Malabo.

The final audience with the Head of State was for Joseph Nzambamwita, General Secretary and Special Envoy from H. E. Paul Kagame, from Rwanda. During this meeting, Juan Antonio Bibang Nchuchuma, Deputy Minister Charged with External Security, accompanied H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. The Rwandan envoy, for his part, passed on a verbal message to the Equatoguinean leader from his counterpart.

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea has called on all friendly countries to support this initiative by declaring that our country promises to rise to the occasion, in favour of a fairer, more humanitarian, more peaceful world. Equatorial Guinea, as a contributing and ratifying member of various conventions, has never enjoyed a privileged position in the UN.

The elections for this post for non-permanent member of the Security Council will be held in the month of June.
