Equatorial Guinea contributes to the search for peace and stability in Guinea Bissau

Guinea Bissau, a member country of the United Nations and the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, is going through a crisis that is of concern to the various regional blocks which make up the UN.
The Consolidation Commission for peace from the organisation held a meeting on 12th February, to look at the measures which, in the future, could lead the nation to stability.

During the meeting, they looked at reports on the current situation in the country, and the CDEAO Permanent Observer before the United Nations outlined the two recent missions carried out by this block of the African Union, and the meetings held with the conflicting parties in order to find common ground.

Job Obiang Esono pointed out that at this time sanctions should not be applied, as they could be counter-productive.

“Concerned for the lengthy crisis that is impeding progress in this brother country it its programme of national reform, Equatorial Guinea considers that the international community should continue to prioritise mediation, good offices, dialogue, ans direct negotiation, as the only viable means to resolve the situation", declared the Equatoguinean diplomat.

Furthermore, he underlined the meed for the parties to do everything possible to achieve the understanding that will lead to the re-establishment of constitutional order, with the support of all the countries that are working for peace.

The Deputy Ambassador from our country ended his speech with a reference to the application of the Conakry Agreement, to guarantee the process of Stability in Guinea Bissau.
