Equatorial Guinea takes part in 108th Assembly of World Tourism Organisation

25.05.2018

During the 108th Assembly, various significant events took place, including the presentation of the new Deputy General Secretary, the Colombian Jaime Alberto Cabal, in a position that the new executive is bringing back. Also, the first working programme and vision from the ne General Secretary, the Georgian Zurab Poliakashvili, chosen in the recent elections for the 2018-2021 period.

Special attention was given to the absence of African representatives within the new governing structure of the WTO presented during the assembly; a lack of balance that it is hoped will be corrected in future compositions of this organisation of which Equatorial Guinea is a member, and in that way the tourism potential of Africa will be recognised, reflected in the increase of 6% that the continent has experienced since 2016, the year in which business figures from the sector stagnated, especially in the north of Africa.
