Equatorial Guinea urges Security Council to oversee immigrants' rights in Libya

Along those lines, The Equatorial Guinea First Deputy Permanent Representative before the UN, Job Obiang Esono Mbengono, took advantage of the Security Council meeting held on 5th September on the Libya situation in order to raise the matter which, in his words, is causing concern for the African Union grouping.

It was a meeting that, under the presidency of the United States, saw a speech from the UN representative in Libya for the peace process, Ghassan Salame, who spoke via video conference from Tripoli.

Having welcomed the report from the United Nations, Obiang Esono condemned the escalation in violence last week in Tripoli, which resulted in deaths and injuries, caused by the various armed groups, and asked for the perpetrators of the deeds to face the implacable process of justice.

“Equatorial Guinea extends its gratitude to all those who are working on the peace process in Libya, among them the United Nations, the European Union and the African Union; a gesture of solidarity that must induce the conflicting parties into deep reflection taking them to a sincere commitment to peace, and so that the next elections can be held in a calm situation", said the Equatorial Guinea First Deputy Representative.
