Minister for Mines and Hydrocarbons strengthens collaboration with Ministry for Health to step up fight against COVID-19


The aim of the meeting was, firstly, to report that the Ministry for Mines and Hydrocarbons had approved the extension of the Malaria programme for three years, and Mbega Obiang Lima also urged the doctors at the Laboratory to focus all their efforts on the fight against the new COVID-19 pandemic.

The Baney Research Laboratory team presented the Support Plan regarding COVID-19, and explained the strategy to increase the number of daily analyses. They affirmed that this weekend they had carried out over 40, thus doubling the current rate. Furthermore, the Minister for Mines and Hydrocarbons confirmed resources to acquire ultra-rapid detection equipment which will allow over 1000 tests to be carried out per day.

Also approved was the acquisition of a consignment of 1,200,000 Coronavirus testing kits so that the entire population cound be tested, in necessary. “I would once again like to express gratitude for the continuous support of the Ministry for Mines and Hydrocarbons for the Health sector", declared the Vice-Minister for Health and Social Welfare, during the meeting.

Doctor Carlos Cortés, head of the Baney Research Laboratory, presented a report on the current situation regarding the Coronavirus in Equatorial Guinea, highlighting the fact that to date there had been six positive cases -all imported- and that up to now there had been no community contagion recorded.
