A bilateral meeting between President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Theodoro Obiang Nguem Mbasogo took place during the Russia-Africa summit ended in Sochi the day before, the Kremlins press service reports.

At the beginning of the conversation, Vladimir Putin emphasized that this is not the first visit of the President of Equatorial Guinea to Russia and expressed the hope that his stay in Sochi and participation in the summit will be of fruitful and pleasant experience and will serve the further development of Russian-Equatoguinean cooperation.

Speaking about the state of bilateral relations, Vladimir Putin in particular said:

We consider your country a promising partner for Russia. Interstate cooperation has traditionally been friendly. And last year we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

We maintain a constant political dialogue. For example, a cooperation agreement between the upper houses of the parliaments of the two countries have been signed recently. Contacts are also being carried out between the foreign affairs agencies.

We are grateful to you, dear Mr. President, for the continued support of a number of our initiatives on international platforms, including within the framework of the United Nations. In particular, this concerns the problems of the glorification of Nazism. You voted in favor of a project on international information security, the non-deployment of weapons first in space, and so on"

At the same time, Vladimir Putin noted that the indicators of bilateral trade, unfortunately, are still unstable. From time to time we are seeing a surge, then a decline. I think that by joint efforts we must align this situation, we must make our cooperation stable

The most promising areas of cooperation between Russia and Equatorial Guinea, Vladimir Putin considers exploration, joint production and processing of hydrocarbons, construction infrastructure and electric power industry.

A significant impetus to the development of ties in the fuel and energy sector, according to the Russian president, could be given by the resumption of the work of the working group on cooperation in the field of energy.

For his part, Obiang Ngema Mbasogo thanked Vladimir Putin for the invitation to the summit, as well as for the warm welcome and hospitality. He also congratulated his Russian counterpart on the good organization of the summit and expressed satisfaction with his participation in the forum.

It was a really wonderful event. We want to congratulate you and also to say that Equatorial Guinea has signed two agreements within the framework of this first Russia-Africa summit, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo said.

It seems to us, he continued, that Russia should be the main and first partner of Equatorial Guinea, despite the fact that we cooperate with many countries. We would like to develop economic cooperation and develop it significantly, and therefore two agreements were signed - with LUKOIL and Rosgeologia companies"

Speaking about the desire to work with Russia, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo emphasized that favorable conditions for foreign investors were created in Equatorial Guinea and invited Russian companies to active participation in the development of his country.
